Large Copper Shark Jaw (EU bidders only) Jaw set...

Large Copper Shark Jaw (Carcharhinus brachyurus) – Southern Madagascar An impressive large jaw of the Copper Shark (Carcharhinus brachyurus), originating from southern Madagascar and traditionally prepared by artisans from local coastal communities. The specimen displays a broad, well-balanced form with an extensive and beautifully exposed dentition. Numerous teeth remain in place along both jaws, while multiple replacement rows are clearly visible, providing a fascinating view of the continuous tooth-renewal system characteristic of sharks. The upper dentition features strong triangular cutting teeth with clearly defined edges, contrasting with the more slender teeth of the lower jaw. The close-up photographs reveal the remarkable arrangement of successive rows developing behind the functional teeth, making the specimen particularly interesting from an anatomical perspective. The preparation preserves portions of the original cartilage and tissue, giving the jaw an authentic natural history character. Natural irregularities, minor losses and preparation-related marks are present, as expected in a genuine prepared zoological specimen, and are clearly visible in the photographs. Its broad symmetrical outline and striking dentition give the jaw a powerful visual presence, making it suitable for shark collections, natural history displays, Wunderkammer interiors or educational collections. Documentation: Invoice no. 01-exp/20 dated 09/03/2020. The specimen dates from 2020, before the CITES Appendix II listing of Carcharhinidae spp. entered into effect on 25 November 2023. A remarkable collector’s specimen combining anatomical interest, authentic preparation and strong visual impact. Attention non-EU bidders: This lot requires specific customs clearance procedures to be shipped out of Italy and then imported into your country. We strongly discourage bidders from outside the European Union from bidding.
