Todas las subastas / Joyería & gemas / Large Art Deco Pendant with Diamonds in Platinum and White Gold, ca. 1925

The 1920s gave rise to a new concept of elegance, and not just in the field of jewellery. With the advent of Art Deco, the flowing lines of Art Nouveau gave way to a new aesthetic, and the designers of that era favored forms that seemed to consist of pure geometry, the interplay of light, and, above all, consummate precision. Paris, Vienna, Berlin, and New York became centers of design where platinum and diamonds were the materials of choice. These so-called “white jewels” were considered the epitome of modern luxury: they were cool, crystalline, and possessed an almost weightless beauty. This pendant is a typical and, at the same time, very beautiful example of this era. Its elongated diamond shape is centered around a single diamond of approximately 0.80 carats, around which three delicately tiered, openwork levels are arranged. Delicate shadow lines lend the composition spatial depth, while filigree arabesques, executed in masterfully fine saw-cut work, enrich the austere geometry with a playful lightness. A total of 22 old-cut and octagonal-cut diamonds, as well as 51 smaller rose cut diamonds, sparkle across the piece. The front is crafted in platinum, while the body is made of white gold; the piece is complemented by an original platinum anchor chain. This exquisitely crafted Art Deco white jewel found its way to us here in Berlin.
