Lamp - Glass - Vintage orange Space Age mushroom table...

Vintage orange Space Age mushroom table lamp – opaline glass – 1970s A fantastic vintage mushroom table lamp from the 1970s, made in intense orange/red opaline glass. The pronounced mushroom shape, the flowing organic lines and the chrome metal ring at the bottom make this a textbook example of the futuristic Space Age design that became popular in the 1960s and 70s. What makes this lamp special is that not only the shade but also the voluptuously shaped lower portion are made in the same orange-red glass mass. When the lamp is switched on, the object transforms completely: the glass distributes a warm, diffuse orange light, causing the entire lamp to seem to glow. Even when switched off, its sculptural form makes it a striking decorative object. Comparable two-part orange mushroom lamps online are attributed to Sijaj-Hrastnik, a glass producer from the former Yugoslavia, now Slovenia. Documented pieces from the 1970s are made of two-layer opal glass, orange on the outside and white on the inside, combined with a chrome metal base. Specialist design shops also describe Sijaj-Hrastnik pieces from this period as Space Age opal-glass mushroom lamps, produced in the 1970s. Because no obvious factory mark is found on the offered piece, the lamp is not guaranteed to be Sijaj-Hrastnik, but rather a vintage 1970s mushroom lamp in the same design and production tradition. The combination of the powerful orange color, high-gloss glass form and subtle metal base makes this lamp particularly suitable for Space Age, Mid-Century Modern, Pop Art or seventies interiors. Beautiful on a sideboard, nightstand, sidetable or as mood lighting in a vintage interior.
