LA RECHERCHE PHOTOGRAPHIQUE. — History - Aesthetics. No. 5: Eroticism. Paris, Paris Audiovisuel, November 1988. In-4, paperback, black-and-white illustrated photographic cover, 101 pp. A major thematic issue of *La Recherche photographique*, entirely devoted to eroticism in photography. The volume brings together critical studies, essays, and portfolios exploring the representation of desire, the nude, and sexuality in the history of photography. Contributions include works by André Rouillé, Abigail Solomon-Godeau, Luce Irigaray, Françoise Duroux, Jean-Paul Goujon, Jean-François Hirsch, Manuela Morgaine, Dominique Baqué, and Serge Tisseron. It features several particularly interesting sections: “The 1930s: Yva Richard,” from the Jean-Pierre Bourgeron collection; Pierre Louÿs, Erotic Photographer; an essay on the eroticism of Clérambault’s photographs; as well as studies devoted to Hans Bellmer, Helmut Newton, and the relationship between eroticism, voyeurism, and the representation of the body. Numerous black-and-white photographic reproductions, both full-page and within the text. The cover features a reproduction of a photograph by Man Ray, from the *Album* (1920–1934). The back cover announces the exhibition “Black Photography in America,” organized as part of Mois de la Photo 1988, featuring a photograph by James Van Der Zee, *Nude by Fire Place*, 1923. A fine copy. A few slight marks and creases from handling on the cover; a small handwritten note reading “eros 1988” at the top of the table of contents.
