Two kyanite earrings / new Set in 925 sterling silver Total weight: 0.64 g / 3.2 ct 4.2 mm x 4.2 mm x 14.7 mm New and unworn Kyanite, also called cyanite, disthen, or sapphirite, is a mineral from the silicate and germanate class. It crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system with the chemical composition Al2[O|SiO4], so chemically it is an aluminum silicate. Structurally, it belongs to the chain-silicates (insular silicates). Kyanite predominantly forms prismatic to tabular crystals with a glassy luster on the surfaces, but it can also occur in fibrous or granular to massive mineral aggregates. In pure form, kyanite is colorless and transparent. Due to multiple light refractions caused by lattice defects or polycrystalline structure, it can appear white and, with impurities, take on pale to dark blue, blue-violet, greenish to brownish, and rarely reddish colors, with transparency accordingly decreasing.
