kokeshi - Doll Zeldzame Japanse Houten Kokeshi Pop...

An impressively large and heavy, handcrafted Japanese sōsaku (creative) kokeshi doll, designed by the highly awarded master craftsman Inosuke Kobayashi. This robust model is an iconic example of his craftsmanship, known for the combination of minimalist forms and deep, detailed woodcarving. Kobayashi is one of the most respected names within modern kokeshi art and winner of the prestigious Prime Minister's Award in Japan. This specific piece stands out for its exceptionally large and sturdy dimensions. At a height of 39 cm and a diameter of no less than 14 cm, this is a solid and heavy work of art. The garment (kimono) is masterfully decorated with fine woodcut lines depicting autumn leaves (momiji/maple leaves) and traditional wave motifs. The contrast between the light, warm-toned wood and the sleek black bob hairstyle gives the doll a timeless, modern look that fits perfectly in a Japandi or design-focused interior. The doll is in solid vintage condition. The woodcarving and the detailed painting on the body and face have been beautifully preserved. As is typical with objects of this age, the characteristic black bob hairstyle shows superficial wear and slight discoloration/crackling in the black lacquer (see photos). This gives the doll authentic patina and character. Due to the natural drying process of the solid wood, there is a substantial shrinkage crack on the rear/side of the head (see detail photos). Important: this crack is absolutely not visible when the doll is viewed straight on from the front, so the serene face and overall aesthetic presentation remain fully intact and unharmed. For shipments within the European Union there are no customs clearance charges provided. The item will be carefully packed and shipped. Please note that the packaging was done by a private individual and not by a professional service, so perfect packaging quality cannot be guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
