Kingdom of Elymais

Kingdom of Elymais. Uncertain ruler ("Prince A") (c. 200–220 AD). Drachm (Bronze, 11 mm, 1.29 g). Obv: Diademed and draped bust left; usually star-in-crescent above inverted anchor to right. Rev: Artemis standing right, holding bow and drawing an arrow from the quiver at her shoulder; occasional crescent in field. Reference: van’t Haaff, Catalogue of Elymaean Coinage, Type 19.1. Elymais was a semi-independent kingdom in southwestern Persia, centered around Susa and closely connected to the Parthian world. The ruler conventionally called “Prince A” remains unidentified; the name is a modern numismatic designation. His coinage, dating to the early 3rd century AD, preserves traditional Elymaean symbols such as the anchor and Artemis while reflecting the kingdom’s distinct local identity under Arsacid influence.
