Kesta (Jean-Louis Dhuit) — The Gypsy Woman, homage to Mucha, oil and pastel, 2015 Art Nouveau Portrait, 100 × 70 cm, artist's studio background Description Artist: Kesta (Jean-Louis Dhuit, born 1936) Title: The Gypsy Woman, 2015 Technique: Oil and pastel on painting board Dimensions: 100 × 70 cm Superb composition in the vocabulary of Alphonse Mucha: idealized female profile, diadem of medallions, pendants, flowing hair and rich ornamental frame on a gold background. The work fully fits the spirit of Parisian Art Nouveau — elegance, curved line, jewel and stylized vegetal decoration. The artist Jean-Louis Dhuit, called Kesta, trained at the École Boulle and then at the Écoles des Beaux-Arts. This double training — woodwork, ornament and decoration — is readable here in the mastery of the motif, the arabesques and the medallion composition. Painter from Auvergne (Ambert), he has developed an eclectic body of work, from decorative to figurative. The Gypsy Woman belongs to a late vein, clearly inspired by Mucha's style. Technique and inscriptions • Recto: signed bottom right KESTA.2015. and monogram bottom left. • Verso, in the artist's own hand: J.L. Dhuit known as “KESTA” — Oil. Pastel. S/cardboard to paint — 1.00 × 0.70 — “La Bohémienne” 2015 — “Etagnon” 63600 Ambert. Frame: Presentation mounting prepared by the artist with black plastic mouldings. Simple mount, intended only to present the work. This is not a high-quality frame; the buyer may replace it according to their taste. Condition: Studio work, not restored. Signs of wear, small traces, spots and surface irregularities related to work and storage in the studio. The board and paint remain healthy overall. Sold as is. Provenance Studio collection of the artist, Ambert. A strong decorative piece, rare on the market: no Kesta sale of this vein of Art Nouveau to date appears on Catawiki.
