BIBLE That is The entire Holy Scripture containing all the Canonical Books of the Old and of the New Testament, faithfully translated from the original languages into our Dutch tongue by order of the High Mighty Lords States General of the United Netherlands and according to the Decree of the National Synod held in the years 1618 and 1619 at Dordrecht. In Amsterdam and in Haarlem. Printed by the Dutch Bible Company. 1832. On the front cover the inscription: CHURCHES OF HAARLEM This Bible had for many years been in the possession of an enthusiast who received the Bible from the Grote or Sint-Bavokerk in Haarlem. This beautiful and monumental church, located on the Grote Markt in the heart of the city, is Haarlem’s main church and very characteristic for the town. The impressive Müller organ is a world-famous pipe organ from 1738, built by the German organ builder Christian Müller. This largest organ in the Netherlands was played by Mozart, Beethoven and Händel, among others. The painter Frans Hals is buried in the church. Condition of the object: Solid binding of blind-stamped leather over wooden boards. With clasps. Binding fine. Contents complete and in reasonable to good condition. At the end of the NT and mainly from the psalm portion and the Evangelische Gezangen at the back, several pages with tape and signs of restoration (see photos). Beautiful antique item! Through its provenance it is a collector’s item for collectors and Bible-lovers. Total number of pages: 1550 Dimensions: 29.4 x 23.5 x 11.0 cm Weight (excluding packaging): 3.9 kg Included in the Bible: a beautiful original etching (as a postcard) of the Grote or Sint-Bavokerk in Haarlem. Created by the German artist Oskar Paul Matthes (1872-1956).
