June 24 summer light Velay Mountains by Anne Baudequin Painting 36.2 x 23.6 :: Landscape of Auvergne France. Wandering the mountains of Velay is my way of living my art. From my studio anchored in the heart of these landscapes I set out in search of the light of a place to set up my easel. From this ridge swept by the warm summer wind rises the dry rustle of tall grasses and the resinous scent of the great pines. The landscape unfolds before me a mosaic of green pastures and already ripe wheat fields. The hills roll gently punctuated by dark groves and a few solitary trees that seem to watch over the land. One can make out the line of a dirt path winding between two meadows the silhouette of a farmhouse. There is no sound of an engine no commotion only the deep tranquil breath of the countryside. In the far distance the mountains are outlined in a bluish haze. Above it all the sky is immense a washed azure streaked with long wispy white clouds pulled by the high-altitude wind.
