Original French Belle Epoque color lithograph poster designed by Jules Cheret (French, 1836-1932) in 1894 for the Paris newspaper Le Radical. The poster advertises Edmond Lepelletier's serialized novel Madame Sans-Gene, adapted from the celebrated play by Victorien Sardou and Emile Moreau. The theatrical composition depicts the elegantly dressed title character in a yellow gown and fur-trimmed cloak, rendered in Cheret's characteristic lively, colorful advertising style. Printed in Paris by Imprimerie Chaix (Ateliers Cheret). The Musee des Arts Decoratifs confirms Cheret, the Chaix printing, and the 1894 date; the Bibliotheque nationale de France records the original as a color lithograph size: 41" W x 54" H.
