Business card of Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, French writer, bearing on the recto a handwritten note in red ink. The note is undated. The back bears the name “Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly” printed in facsimile signature, enhanced by hand in gold ink. The note, in red ink on a cream Bristol card, is adorned with a drawing of an arrow at the bottom of the text. In this note addressed to an unnamed “Mademoiselle,” the author states that he is unable to come that evening, proposes to meet on Wednesday if she herself is free, and ends with an ironical remark about the impossible. - Dimensions: 9 x 13.8 cm - Condition: Good overall.
