JP Art - Out of the Surface

Out of the Surface is a powerful three-dimensional artwork in which sculpture and canvas meet. From the white canvas, a muscular male body seems to emerge, while the separately positioned feet reinforce the effect that the figure is literally moving through the surface. The sculptural parts are hand-finished in a warm copper/bronze tone. Dark accents in the deeper areas emphasize the anatomy, rough texture and powerful forms of the body. Because of the relief, the work reacts strongly to light and natural shadows arise, making the piece look different from every angle. The calm white canvas forms a strong contrast with the dark metallic tones and gives the work a modern, industrial and at the same time classical appearance.
