A beautiful Japanese pressing of John Coltrane's legendary Live at the Village Vanguard, released in 1980 under catalogue number VIM-4611. Recorded in November 1961 at New York's famous Village Vanguard jazz club and originally released on Impulse! in 1962, this album captures Coltrane during one of the most revolutionary periods of his career. Accompanied by extraordinary musicians including Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman and Elvin Jones, these performances helped redefine the possibilities of modern jazz. What makes this recording especially fascinating is the extraordinary contrast between its three compositions. The deeply atmospheric Spiritual and elegant Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise lead into the explosive Chasin' the Trane, an extended blues improvisation that showcases Coltrane's remarkable intensity and creativity. The overall presentation remains clean and well preserved. Vinyl (NM): Beautiful Near Mint condition, very nicely preserved with excellent gloss throughout. The vinyl shows virtually no signs of handling or play, grading NM overall.
