Joe Norris Winter Scene

Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia. C. 1978. Closely related to 'Norris’s Winter Cove', 1978, illustrated on page 40 of Bernard Riordon’s "Painted Visions of Nova Scotia", this winter landscape captures the season in transition, with fresh snow blanketing the cove while autumn leaves still cling to the trees. The scattered flecks of snow across the evergreens, bare branches and even the grazing moose suggest the beginnings of a decorative treatment that Norris would later develop more fully in his celebrated Starry Night paintings. Signed, "Joe. Norris", lower left.
