A very rare and beautiful pair of bronze bookends by L. Fontinelle, dating from around 1930. They depict two highly stylized cockatoos. Beautiful gold-brown patina. Signed Fontinelle on each piece. Jean de La Fontinelle was a French artist who began exhibiting in 1929 at the Salon des Artistes Animaliers in Paris. There he worked with prominent names including Paul Jouve, Charles Artus and François Pompon. His sculptures are mainly made of ceramic; bronze figures are much rarer.
