Japanese hanging scroll executed in ink and light color washes on paper. The scene depicts a young boy riding on the back of a water buffalo through tall grass, with the animal rendered in soft grey ink washes and the environment suggested by expressive diagonal brushstrokes. The painting based on the Ox-Herding Buddhist parable is mounted on a light blue-grey silk damask featuring a repeating floral pattern, with inner borders of a more complex floral and scrollwork design. The scroll is finished with wooden roller ends. A vertical column of seven characters in black ink cursive script is located on the upper right side of the painting, with a single square red seal positioned directly below. Dimensions: 13.25"W x 47.5"H Weight: 6. oz Condition Request Condition Report Two small tears on upper right.
