James Fenton

Seven interesting silver thimbles, both antique and vintage, all made in England and ages ranging 150 years from 1830 to 1982. The oldest is a rare embroidery thimble as used early in the 18th century, shaped to leave the top of the finger free. A thimble with double decoration and a decorative gilded relief band is dated 1912 and a lovely thimble with crisp daisy pattern is marked 1899. Three real antiques! Unusual is the thimble with a blue agate top bearing silver marks for London 1973. Another with all-over flower pattern and red stone top dates 1982. An lovely enameled thimble in brilliant turquoise with flower pattern dates from the 1960's. In 1981 Princess Diana married Prince Charles in Westminster Abbey in London. A gilded thimble commemorating this event shows the abbey along with wedding bells, monograms and text. It is unusual to find a gilded version of this thimble. All thimbles are made of .925 silver and are in excellent condition (no holes or dents). A quality addition to a serious thimble collection. Careful packaging will ensure a safe delivery.
