J. Casari was a Dutch painter active in the 20th century. There are in public archives very few personal biographical details about his life (such as exact birth and death dates). The artist, however, left a recognizable body of work that regularly appears at international art and antique auctions. Casari painted mainly in a traditional, realistic Dutch style. The artist often worked with oil on panel (oil on board) or on canvas. The main themes in Casari's work are typical Dutch winter landscapes: often with snow-covered fields, frozen waters, atmospheric Dutch farms or houses with thatched roofs. The works of Casari are characterized by fine detailing and capturing the typical, often melancholic Dutch light and cloud skies. Many of these works were at the time framed in classical, gold-gilded ornamental frames. The artist signed the work consistently on the lower right or lower left with 'J. Casari'. Because of the lack of extensive documentation in large art-historical databases such as the RKD (Dutch Institute for Art History), there is sometimes speculation in the art trade that 'J. Casari' may have been a pseudonym of a painter active at the time who produced works on commission for galleries or for the export market, which in the 20th century was a common phenomenon.
