Italy - Liguria / Genoa; W.B. Clarke - GENOA. (Genova / Gênes) - 1821-1850

The map offers an extraordinary and clear panoramic view of early 19th-century Genoa, before the large industrial and urban expansions of the late 19th century: • Urban Fabric and Port: highlights in reddish-brown tones the dense network of narrow alleys (caruggi) in the medieval historic center and the distinctive amphitheatrical shape of the old port, complete with the piers of the era. • Views of Monuments (Bottom): The lower margin is enriched by an elegant frieze displaying scale drawings of the façades of Genoa's principal historic buildings, among which the Lantern (La Lanterna), the Doge's Palace, theaters, and historic cathedrals stand out. • Topographic Inset: In the lower-center is inserted a precious inset (Environs of Genoa) illustrating the complex hillside morphology and the fortifications that protected the city. • Legend and Scale: In the upper left is the cartouche with the title and the graphic scales (in geometric steps and meters). In the upper right is the legend (Index) for identifying key locations. Good overall condition. The map shows the patina typical of the era, with vivid coloration and perfectly legible details. Very light tear on the right edge of the white border (See photo)
