Monumental History Painting – Dante in Conversation with Monks – circa 1750 Large-format oil painting on canvas depicting a literary-religious scene. In the center is presumably Dante Alighieri in a red robe, speaking with a white-bearded monk before an impressive monastery architecture. Following a personal assessment by Belgian art and antique expert Bruno Speybrouck, the Italian work is dated to circa 1750. The painting has been restored and relined with an old canvas. It shows age-related craquelure, older retouchings, light scratches on the red garment, and surface traces. The richly ornate, gilded frame displays minor warping and losses.
