Italian school (XIX) - Scena d’interno di una chiesa con figure

The work, purchased in Palermo, belongs to the fortunate nineteenth-century production of genre scenes and interior views. The scene immortalizes several figures in period costumes who stand in front of the monumental ceremonial entrance of a church, characterized by columns in veined green marble and a lunette decorated in gold with the effigy of a Saint. The composition is distinguished by a deep and scenographic chiaroscuro, with swift brushstrokes rich in tactile texture. In the lower right corner, at the base of the column, the monogram "EM" in red stands out. The contemporaneous frame is in gilded, fluted wood. The main band features a dense and refined work in gadrooning (strigilatura) that captures and splendidly reflects ambient light, functioning as a kind of optical aid that amplifies the scene's depth. Oil on panel. • Era: XIX Century (Second half) • School/Area: Italian / Sicilian (Origin Palermo) • Signature: "EM" in red Measurements: 45x37; 25.5x16.5 outside the frame • Condition: Good overall. The paint film presents a natural craquelure, stable and coherent with the age of the work. The monumental original frame preserves its antique gilding with a beautiful patina and minimal signs of time attesting to its authenticity. Tracked shipping with courier The frame is considered a complimentary bonus. Any damages caused by transport are not a reason for complaint or cancellation of the sale
