Important Ancient Silver Plated Inkstand in Massiveness and Neoclassical Taste with an Angelic Putto Important antique desk inkstand in solid silver, of neoclassical taste and style, characterized by a richly worked structure and an elegant decorative composition, enhanced by a central figure depicting an angelic putto. The structure features a wide rectangular base with a smooth upper plane, bounded by a scenographic peripheral band finely chased and pierced, decorated with elaborate volutes, acanthus leaves, floral motifs and vegetal ornamentation. In the center of the front band stands a relief anthropomorphic mask, framed by a rich composition of symmetrical foliate elements. The upper part is organized around a central cylindrical element, mounted on a square base with four small pen-holder recesses, decorated with foliate motifs. The central body presents chased ornamental bands and supports an elegant pedestal crowned by the figure of an angelic putto, depicted standing, with one leg slightly raised, one arm raised upward and the other extended forward. The figure is modeled with particular attention to facial features, curly hair and anatomical details. Alongside the central composition there are two large urn-shaped containers, supported by shaped feet and characterized by their bulging bodies, incised bands and geometric decorations. Both are provided with richly worked circular lids, topped by small figurative elements representing birds. Particularly refined is the workmanship of the front band, which features a rich interlacing of floral motifs, opposing volutes and pierced foliage, culminating in the central mask. The ends develop into wide foliate decorations, giving the whole an elegant and scenographic appearance. The structure is completed by two ornate, shaped side handles, also decorated with ornamental motifs, further enriching the composition. The silver surface presents a patina with light brownish nuances, small marks and traces of time, especially evident in the smooth parts and in the recesses of the chased work. There are also stamped marks impressed on the metal, photographed, whose exact identification requires verification. An object of great charm and remarkable decorative presence, appreciable for the richness of the workmanship, the balance of proportions and the refinement of the sculptural elements. An important desk accessory, ideal for collections of antique silverware, studies, libraries and representative environments.
