This 'Large Golden Lion' $1000 note was the first of this denomination to be issued for general use. $1000 bills were prepared in the 19th century, but it remains doubtful whether any were issued; even so, the purchasing power was so enormous that they were probably used as interbank transfers. This note is a coveted A prefix note with very attractive serial numbers, and a classic note for collectors of Hong Kong banknotes.
