Holy water font - 1850-1900 - 35 cm

Antique religious wall crucifix featuring a detailed figure of Jesus Christ mounted on an ornate Gothic-style cross. The cross is richly decorated with raised floral, foliate and geometric motifs, giving it a strong 19th-century historicist appearance. The crucifix appears to be made of cast metal with a dark aged patina and bronze-toned highlights. It is mounted on a shaped black backing plate with pointed and curved Gothic architectural contours. The reverse is plain and shows several mounting holes and signs of age and use. The figure of Christ is finely modelled, with detailed facial features, crown of thorns, drapery and anatomical definition. The decorative cross includes scrolling foliage, lattice motifs and stylised leaf ornaments.
