Hollandse school(XX) Naar Cornelis Raaphorst - Spelende kittens

Cornelis Raaphorst Nieuwkoop 1875-1954 Wassenaar Cornelis Raaphorst was born in 1875 in Nieuwkoop. He lived and worked mainly in Wassenaar. Even in a museum in London there hangs a 'kittens' painting by the painter. This has not always been the case, placed in the light of the times in which Cornelis Raaphorst lived. From his paintings one cannot tell that he had to paint in poverty; his canvases always show a lavish atmosphere. The self-taught house painter, as he was, must have worked very hard to earn a living for his wife and nine children. Raaphorst became very well known for painting playing young kittens, which sometimes rivaled the quality of Henriëtte Ronner.
