This luminous and spring-like work presents a bucolic view of the fortified village of Brignais, located in the Rhône department. It is signed by the artist in Bordeaux-colored ink at the bottom right. The author, Hippolyte MADELAINE (1871-1966), is a renowned history painter, landscape painter, and watercolorist of the Rouen School. A member of the French Artists, he produced between 2,300 and 2,500 works during his long life, traveling extensively across France to capture its most beautiful landscapes. FASCINATING HISTORY AND PROVENANCE: This work has remained completely fresh, unpublished, and preserved from the art market. Its verso bears precious handwritten period notes in pencil: “Guny le jardin,” “à Père de Claude,” as well as the geographic inscription “Brignais.” This painting was personally saved from debris beside trash at the foot of a housing estate in Le Blanc-Mesnil (93150). Its patrimonial value and historical authenticity have been officially validated from photos by the prestigious Paris auction house MILLON, with a confidence estimate of €600–€800 for their prestige sales.
