High-quality obelisk carved from serpentine from the Ural...

Impressive obelisk of serpentinite with complex black veining, from the Urals — This magnificent specimen presents itself as a monolithic obelisk, finely carved and polished from serpentinite, a metamorphic rock predominantly composed of minerals of the serpentine group, such as antigorite and chrysotile. Its geological formation is intrinsically tied to complex hydrothermal alteration processes of ultrabasic rocks (peridotites and dunites) in geodynamic contexts of subduction or orogeny. The obelisk shape, with its slender silhouette culminating in a pyramid tip, has been chosen to enhance the compactness and intrinsic aesthetics of this lithology, typical of metasomatic reactions at low temperature and high pressure. Visual analysis reveals a dominant chromatic range spanning from bright chartreuse green to deep dark green, a palette denoting the presence of several mineralogical phases of serpentine. The piece is traversed by a dense and fascinating network of black, branched veining that draw intricate patterns on the glossy surface. These dark inclusions, probably consisting of opaque minerals such as magnetite, chromite, or dark talc, result from successive crystalline generations or segregation processes within the serpentine matrix. The mirror polish elevates the mineral’s natural waxy luster, allowing light penetration that enhances the shades and depth of color. The origin of this obelisk is attested to the Urals, a mountain range spanning Russia, geologically renowned for its abundant deposits of ultrabasic and metamorphic rocks, including extensive serpentinite deposits. The Uralian peridotites underwent, over millions of years, intense serpentinization, giving rise to materials of high aesthetic quality, historically used in artwork and ornamental objects since antiquity. This specific geographic and geological origin confers additional intrinsic value to the specimen, attesting to its authenticity and its formative context in a geologically significant global setting. The aesthetic quality and craftsmanship of this obelisk are first order. The balanced and harmonious distribution of color and veining creates a visually refined impact. The cutting is performed with extreme precision and the surface polish is flawless, enhancing every detail of the texture and color of the serpentinite. No fractures, prominent superficial inclusions, or other significant structural defects are detected, indicating an excellent state of preservation and a very high level of finish. The obelisk is designed to be self-supporting, with a perfectly flat and stable base that allows safe display on any surface. The intrinsic density and robustness of serpentinite ensure the piece’s durability. This feature makes it an ideal collectible item, as it does not require external supports and maintains a sculptural and imposing presence, evoking the stability and grandeur of ancient monuments. From a collecting perspective, an Uralian serpentinite obelisk of such caliber, both for its color and structural quality and for the precision of workmanship, represents a highly prestigious acquisition. It is not merely a visually striking decorative object, but also a significant specimen that illustrates the complex metamorphic interactions and the geological richness of our planet. Its inclusion in a collection adds a touch of refinement, inviting contemplation of natural wonders and human ingenuity in lapidary art."} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }
