Hermier (F.)

Hermier (F.). The Truth about the Prophecies of Gouy-l’Hôpital. By Servants of Mary, witnesses of the Apparitions. The only authentic account collected by F. Hermier. Paris, C. Dillet, 1881. Third edition. Brochure, in 12mo, 70 pages, followed by an unpaginated table. Printed, preserved gray-green cover, bearing on the second cover a “Prière dictated to Restaux by the Apparition on 25 March 1880.” An apologetic account of the apparitions and prophecies attributed to the seer Théophile Restaux at Gouy-l’Hôpital, in the Somme. The work describes the locations, the initial manifestations, the novena, and the subsequent apparitions. An interesting document for the history of Catholic prophecy and Marian devotion at the end of the 19th century. Hermier’s brochure and the seer are still mentioned in L’Écho du merveilleux in 1907.
