Hermann Fischer-Roloff (1917-1988) - Bachlauf im Spiegellicht

Hermann Fischer-Roloff (1917-1988) - Bachlauf im Spiegellicht

Title: Stream Run in Mirror Light Year: 1949 Technique: Tempera on cardboard (under glass, in a passepartout/mat) Signature: clearly visible on the lower right corner of the front; also marked on the back Condition: very good, hardly any signs of aging Provenance: Private collection Description “Stream Run in Mirror Light” from 1949 depicts a quiet, wintry river landscape, one of Hermann Fischer-Roloff’s characteristic natural motifs. The narrow stream, the bare trees, and the delicate reflections in the water create a calm, almost contemplative atmosphere. The tempera technique gives the work a matte, velvety surface and underlines the clear, restrained visual language that is typical of Fischer-Roloff. The painting is clearly signed on the front, bottom right, which further confirms its authenticity. On the back there is also the handwritten designation “Stream Run in Mirror Light 1949.” The work is presented in a high-quality, period-typical frame that harmonizes color and style exceptionally well with the painting. The frame superbly complements the calm, nature-oriented mood of the image. Notably, the painting is framed under original glass. This glass has protected the sensitive tempera painting for decades, so the work is now exceptionally well preserved. Both the painting and the frame show hardly any signs of aging, which significantly increases its appeal. Dimensions With frame: approx. 52 × 38.5 × 1.5 cm Without frame (in passepartout/mat): approx. 38 × 25 cm Stylistic classification Naturalism with modern reduction Post-war modernism (1940s) Tempera painting with a matte, fine surface finish Artist biography Hermann Fischer-Roloff (1917–1988) was a German painter and graphic artist and is regarded as one of the important representatives of the Hannover School. He was a co-founder of the Bund Bildender Künstler Nordwestdeutschland and devoted himself throughout his life to figurative painting. His work includes cityscapes, landscapes, figure pictures, and travel impressions, always characterized by a reduced, essential-form language. He regularly exhibited at the Kunstverein Hannover, the Kestnergesellschaft, and the Galerie Kubus and participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Italy, Austria, England, and Sweden. Works by Fischer-Roloff are in, among others, public collections such as: • Sprengel Museum Hannover • Historical Museum Hannover
