Hendrik Roelfs Huising

Antique, openwork, silver purse frame with accompanying silver purse hook. This heavy purse frame and the purse hook were made around 1790 by the silversmith Hendrik Roelfs Huising from Oude Pekela (Groningen). He worked as a silversmith in Winschoten (from 1775) and in Oude Pekela from 1780 to 1811. The purse frame is of the Groningen type. A similar purse frame is pictured in the book by Wttwaal (Dutch Small Silver) as illustration 100 (see photo). The purse frame is decorated with garlands and on the spring fastener with a flower basket. There is nothing missing on the purse frame (including the inner frame) and the hook. On the back of the frame is a dotted engraving: E.P. 1807. On the outside of the frame and on the back of the hook is the master mark: HRH in a rectangle with HR joined. The width of the frame is 17.5 cm, the thickness 1.3 cm and the weight 245 grams.
