Born as Helmut Andreas Paul Grieshaber in Rot am Rhein, he initially studied typography before turning to visual art. In the 1950s and 1960s he gained international recognition for his woodcuts, which impressed with their expressive formal language and humanistic message. Grieshaber was also a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and influenced numerous young artists. His works are represented in important collections and museums worldwide.
