Handley Brothers, Picton, King Charles Spaniel Pair
Canadian. 1890-1900. In the early 1890s, William and Henry Handley were working for the Hart Brothers & Lazier Pottery in Picton Ontario, when they decided to strike-out and open a pottery of their own. Little is known of their production as they marked few pieces. David L. Newlands Early Ontario Potters shows an earthenware King Charles spaniel marked Handley Bros./Piction on pg. 43, plate 5.14. While unmarked, this pair of earthenware spaniels are identical to the marked specimen in Newlands.
