100% Chardonnay Wine of Origin: Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Winemaker: Emul Ross This is my maiden vintage for the CWG and the first from Hamilton Russell Vineyards since 2003. The wine is a combination of three barrels from one of my favourite vineyards. It is sourced from Dijon clone 96, planted at 140 metre elevation, 2.7 kilometres from the cold Atlantic Ocean, in iron-rich Bokkeveld shale soil. Fermentation took place in custom-made 300 litre French oak barrels and was followed by 11 months of élevage. Throughout the year, the wine was topped with lees to lend additional richness and texture. Tasting Notes: Orchard blossoms, white pear and yellow citrus take center stage, with hints of flinty reduction, adding complexity. The palate has a subtle richness and a classic, long, refreshingly saline finish. Ready for drinking 3 to 5 years after vintage.
