H.J.A. Buschenhenke (1868-1937) - Bijbels tafereel

H.J.A. Buschenhenke (Amsterdam, 1868-1937) developed from the son of a liqueur distiller into a respected fine painter. He supplied plate drawings for the Regout factories in Maastricht and biblical print illustrations for the Voorhoeve publishing house in The Hague. For years he worked for Atelier Sio in Amsterdam, where seventeenth-century masterpieces were copied for the American market. Between 1928 and 1936 he painted hundreds of Zaanse landscape panels under the direction of draughtsman Remmert Ouwejan; from that period he sometimes signed as "H. Busch." The Molenmuseum Koog aan de Zaan devoted attention to his work in 2008. This painting shows a biblical scene: three men in oriental robes in discussion, against a rocky landscape at twilight. A subject that aligns with Buschenhenke's work for the religious print market. Condition: painting in excellent condition, minimal craquelure, a few minuscule spots of paint loss (see detail photo). Original sprung frame with stays and hanging cord, no doublering. Antique gilded frame with rich floral and shell ornament, with some signs of use. The frame is included free of charge.
