Description of the work Large and striking composition by Gundi Falk, circa 2000. On a pink background built with broad flat areas and nervous black lines, a cubist head with immediate presence is constructed. The face, fragmented between a gray profile and a pale green cheek, is pierced by an intense green eye, outlined by a thick line. The nose, mouth and neck are articulated in simplified, almost sculptural volumes, in a language that clearly evokes Picasso’s lessons from the 1930s–1950s—without ever being a copy. The drips, brushwork corrections and the spontaneous black graphics give the work its raw, vital character. The artist, a former contemporary dancer, translates the face here as a body in tension: rhythm, imbalance and the force of gesture. A distinctive piece, in generous XXL format (120 × 100 cm), faithful to the gestural energy and expressive force that run through Gundi Falk’s work. Artist Biography Gundi Falk, born in 1966 near Salzburg, Austria, is a complete visual artist: painter, draftsman, sculptor and former contemporary dancer. Her work explores movement, rhythm, space and organic forms, at the boundary between abstraction and figuration. Since 2011, she has collaborated with experimental photographer Pierre Cordier on chemigrams.
