Ground Floor — MONGO — A large, oblong shield made of finely woven plant fibers, featuring contrasting geometric decoration arranged symmetrically around a central motif. The reverse side features a central wooden handle secured by a woven basketwork system. Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mongo region, first half of the 20th century. Beautiful patina from use.
