A very beautiful work with a lovely rendering of colors An authenticity certificate (COA) provided by Darren Zint will be included with the shipment. Who is Gracie Morton Pwerle? She began her artistic career like most Utopia artists with the introduction of batik technique in the 1970s before taking up painting on canvas in the late 1980s. Gracie draws inspiration mainly from her Dreaming of Wild Prune, Amwekety. This plant holds great significance for the Indigenous people of Utopia (the Anmatyerre and Alyawarre who live in the Eastern Central Desert). The fruit, rich in vitamin C, is important for sustenance but there is also a spiritual significance to this Dream, of which Gracie is one of its custodians. She inherited the rights to this Dream from her father and aunt. She paints it in the manner of the desert artists, like an aerial view. The background color of the canvas describes the season, as the plum tree can bloom with flowers during the winter months but changes completely in appearance between the wet season and the dry season. By using very fine points she creates a three-dimensional effect. This style, similar in technique to some Utopia artists such as Kathleen Petyarre, the Purvis family (Kathleen), and especially Anna Petyarre or Abie Loy, ... takes on a very personal character by emphasizing the very structure of the Wild Plum Dream (just a few lines blended into the pointillist background). It is this distinctive style that allowed Gracie to make a name for herself in the late 1990s. Today her works are frequently exhibited in major exhibitions, not only in the major Australian cities but also in Europe or the USA. The artwork will be shipped unstretched in a cardboard shipping tube.
