Gorham - Gorham - Platter - .925 silver

An exquisite ensemble of late 19th-century American fine dining ware. It is a classic Victorian butter dish made of the finest silver, consisting of an elegant underplate with a surrounding pearl-edge decoration and a precisely fitting, highly polished food cloche. Assay mark: Fully and museum-documented, stamped. The underside bears the official guarantee mark “STERLING” (the finest 925/1000 solid silver) and the factory model number “3930G.” An outstanding collector’s feature is the historically exact year code (Date Code) from Gorham: the engraved crescent moon (with an integrated moon face) datestamps the creation of this piece precisely to 1892. Origin: USA. Made by the legendary Gorham Manufacturing Company (Providence, Rhode Island) – the historically most significant court supplier to the White House and the American elite of the era. Auction history: From well-kept private ownership. Defects and damages on the item: Excellent, authentic antique condition. The set shows no structural damage, deep dents, deformations, or later repair work. The surface reveals a fine, even age patina and micro-fine polishing traces that emphasize its character and genuine age of over 130 years. The marks are well legible, the delicate year mark has been softly worn by age with care. Notably, the rare completeness of the two-piece original ensemble stands out. Weight: 154 grams (solid sterling silver) Shipping method and insurance: Shipping is as a valuable collector’s item in specialized packaging, fully insured and with comprehensive tracking.
