We are selling this painting from an estate. We have had the painting since 2012, but it does not fit us at all. The report from the year 1996 contains all essential points and this was also confirmed to me in Munich. The report from 1996 is, of course, included in the original. The painting shows the portrait of an old lady from the 17th century. It is in the so-called cabinet format measuring 15x19 cm. The frame, which is also from the period, is 30x40 cm. It is an oil painting that was painted directly onto an oak panel (wood panel). The dark, profiled frame stylistically fits perfectly into the era and, according to the report, originates from the time of the painting’s creation. The Rembrandt influence: the restorer notes that the influence of the Rembrandt workshop is unmistakable. This is especially evident in the portrayal of age, the psychological depth of the face, and the masterful interplay of light and shadow (chiaroscuro). The painting technique, according to the report, suggests that the artist either spent time wandering in Venice or worked closely with Italian-influenced colleagues. Such stylistic blends were appreciated in Dutch Baroque (the end of the Golden Age). The characteristic vertical wood grain is clearly visible in the close-up photos.
