Paris is undisputedly the city of the best jewelers in the world. Cartier, Boucheron, Chaumet, there are so many big names based in the French capital that instead of "All roads lead to Rome" in jewelry matters, it should actually be "All roads lead to Paris"! This ring comes from one of the most famous jewelry houses of our time, Van Cleef & Arpels. The Maison was founded in Paris in 1896 by the Dutch diamond cutter Alfred Van Cleef and his father-in-law Salomon Arpels. Since 1906, the company has had its premises at the famous Place Vendôme 22, opposite the legendary Hôtel Ritz. The hand-forged ring made of solid platinum and diamonds was created in the middle of the last century and is still very much in the style of late Art Deco. At its center, the ring presents an antique diamond in a cushion-shaped old mine cut. The diamond was cut in the 19th century and weighs 1.44 ct, with a slightly tinted white color (J) and only a few small inclusions (si1). Unfortunately, we cannot say whether this was an heirloom for which someone commissioned the setting from Van Cleef & Arpels or whether the jeweler himself decided to use an antique stone for a new creation. The large diamond is held in place by an airy chaton, which allows the light to fall in perfectly. To the right and left, the large diamond cushion is accompanied by two trapezoid-cut diamonds, which lead over to the simple platinum ring band. The center stone has been independently appraised by the Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie, Paris. It is enclosed with the ring, which came to us from the south of France.
