Giuseppe Bravi (1940) - La Cattedrale

Giuseppe Bravi (Milan 1940) is known to the Mantuan public for the numerous exhibitions held at Libreria Galleria Einaudi, at the Life space, and recently at Spazio Arrivabene. His language sits halfway between figuration and abstraction and provides us with a joyful engagement with forms. The exhibition at the Diocesan Museum presents Giuseppe Bravi's creative commitment over the last four years and is entirely unprecedented. About fifty wall works (also small formats) that depart from the usual understanding of what is normally meant by a painting. It is better to speak of painted compositions with relief elements. Thirteen, instead, are small wooden sculptures with some colored parts. The curator's words help us tune in to the artist's joyful and lighthearted intentions: "The balance of signs marks routes, paths, shortcuts of meaning, daring walkways, the backdrops of consciousness where to reawaken new enthusiasm. And the woods mimic miniature mountains, steep elevations within reach of the heart, while the wings of an imprudent Icarus dare to challenge the obvious"
