Biography Member of a noble family, still flourishing, which traced its origins to a nearby village of Pisa[1], after graduating in law he turned to painting following the example of his elder brother Francesco. He comes into contact with the Post-Macchiaioli painters with whom he practices rural and countryside subjects, mainly drawn from the Tuscan countryside. On a trip to Paris in 1878 he has the opportunity to learn the investigations of Edgar Degas, expanding his repertoire with new themes drawn from urban life and equestrian subjects. Constantly linked to plein-air painting, he specializes in the execution of Maremma landscapes characterized by the presence of animals, with which he distinguished himself at the Art Exhibition of the City of Venice in 1887 and at the Exposition Universelle of Paris in 1889. Toward the end of the century he travels to paint with his brother along the Adriatic coast. He participates in the major Italian exhibitions of the early 20th century, in particular the Exposition Universelle di Roma of 1911.
