GERMAN NEW GUINEA. 5 Mark, 1894-A. Berlin Mint. Wilhelm II. NGC MS-66. Dav-429; KM-7; J-707. A pristine Gem example of one of the most renowned Crown-sized issues of the 20th century, the iconic bird-of-paradise's outspread plumage rendered in spectacular detail and accentuated by a stunning backdrop of light pastel toning. The surfaces are smooth and admirably clean, the obverse particularly pristine and free of marks. VERY RARELY found in this elite condition, and bested by only a single example over the combined NGC and PCGS population reports. Estimate: $30,000 - $40,000.
