This painting from my grandmother, the wife of the architect Paul Detaeye, very famous in Ghent, and my grandmother’s ancestors were famous artists. So I now have far too many paintings. It is signed. By the artist: Georges Vandewalle, but better known in Ghent as Cies. (1861-1923) Therefore this painter signed most paintings with a C instead of a G of Georges! He also had his studio with the very first group of painters in the famous St. Martens Latem among the very well-known Impressionist painters now! DE GRASLEI was, before 1900, a harbor in Ghent. Because the two famous rivers De Leie and the Scheldt flow together in Ghent. Every tourist has seen this spot from the same bridge. Even today DE GRASLEI is the same as in 1800! Because all buildings are protected. Thus the repairs of these gabled houses were mandatory to follow the very strict rules to preserve the same view as in 1800. Every original stone, no matter how small, had to be used, after being cleaned first and rebuilt as before. Regarding this Impressionist painter, better known in i.p. (inter alia) as Georges Vandewalle. Better known in Ghent vernacular as Cies De Kalle in the art world. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Recognition of his work under the name confraternity (Georges) or (Cies) Vandewalle has a permanent collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent. Dimensions: with frame = 82x63 cm. Without the frame = 70x50 cm. This frame is also very valuable. A solid oak frame that is gold-painted. Indestructible! Look closely at the back. It will be shipped with the greatest care via Bpost International. With very good and secure packaging it will be put in a larger, heavier box protected with foam. The shipping costs are 2 euros higher due to the weight to ship safely so that no damage would occur, and also because of the weight. My apologies for this, but better 2 euros extra than that something should happen, the transport companies really throw packages around! I’ve experienced this myself.
