Elegant specimen of Isurus oxyrinchus tooth with gleaming enamel and intact root — This specimen presents an anterior upper tooth of Isurus oxyrinchus, commonly known as the shortfin mako shark, belonging to the order Lamniformes and family Lamnidae. The tooth, 50 mm in length, is magnificently preserved and morphologically complete, illustrating in an exemplary fashion the distinctive features of this species. The crown is smooth, pointed, and free of serrations, with a tapered shape and a slight distal curvature that enhances its natural elegance. The root is compact and porous, maintaining its structural integrity. The crown boasts an enamel coating of exceptional luster, characterized by homogeneous ivory tones that testify to high mineralization and excellent condition of the original tissue. The root, with its delicate curvature, shows a light beige coloration and clearly visible porosity, elements that confirm its natural origin and the absence of alterations. Every detail, from the sharp tip to the base, is well defined, making this tooth a subject of study and admiration. Functionally, a tooth like this is classifiable as a highly specialized penetrating and injuring instrument. Its sharp and symmetric shape was perfectly suited to the diet of the mako shark, which includes extremely fast pelagic bony fish such as tuna (Thunnus spp.), mackerel (Scomber spp.), and swordfish (Xiphias gladius). The extraordinary speed of this predator, which can exceed 70 km/h, made an efficient hunting strategy essential. The anterior teeth, like the specimen presented here, acted as true natural projectiles, designed to maximize penetration into the prey with minimal friction, ensuring maximum effectiveness in capture. Originating from Madagascar, although the data “Epoch/Formation: 2025” is clearly a dating error and should be interpreted as a modern or sub-fossil tooth from recent deposits, adds an exotic touch to this piece. This specimen represents a fascinating testament to the evolution and predatory adaptation of one of the most formidable marine hunters. A object of great interest for collectors, marine biology scholars, or simply for anyone wishing for a unique piece of natural history as a decorative item for a Wunderkammer. Any minor irregularities, cavities, or color variations should be considered natural characteristics of the specimen and not defects."
