Title: "Au canon de la Marne" Technique: Watercolor on paper Artist: Geneviève Gallibert (1888–1978) Overall size: 37.5 × 51 cm Condition: Good condition with small signs of wear Geneviève Gallibert (1888–1978) was a French painter, engraver, illustrator and watercolorist born in Paris. A student of the famous Raoul Dufy, she developed a dynamic graphic style, characterized by fluid lines and the use of Chinese ink. Married to Louis Hirschauer, one of the pioneers of French aviation, she became familiar with the aeronautical milieu very early. This major influence led her to launch the series of the "Landscapes seen from an airplane", capturing verticality and the horizon from the sky. In recognition of her aerial work, she was officially named Painter of the Air in 1935. She also made a name for herself with urban scenes and seascapes, notably through her views of Provence and the French Riviera, painting Nice or Cannes. Her travels took her as far as Morocco, where she captured the light of Marrakech. Today, her artistic heritage is preserved in prestigious international institutions, such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris or the Courtauld Gallery in London.
