French Art Nouveau Table Lamp - Frog & Bird on Lotus Leaf - Bronze / Brass - Marked 'L' - c. 1900 Highlight Rare and high-quality French Art Nouveau table/desk lamp made of bronze and brass, produced around 1900. Elaborately rendered with a figurative depiction of a frog and a bird on a lotus leaf. Marked with a casting mark 'L'. Description A particularly decorative and authentic French Art Nouveau table lamp from the period circa 1900. The heavy bronze/brass base is beautifully designed as an elegant curved lotus stem with a realistically detailed frog on a large lotus leaf at the base. Midway up the stem is a bird with wings spread. At the top the stem ends in a garland of punched and shaped brass, enclosing the glass tulip shade. The gracefully pleated glass shade subtly shifts from transparent to soft green and yellow tones, creating a wonderfully atmospheric lighting effect. Details and Condition Origin: France Dating: ca. 1900 (Art Nouveau / Jugendstil) Mark: Marked with an impressed casting mark 'L' on the lotus leaf. Glass shade: Completely intact (no chips or cracks), with light, age-related specks in the glass. 2 screws present for the shade Construction & Patina: The bronze/brass is in a beautiful antique condition with an authentic patina. There is a very slight movement in the brass leaves near the shade, appropriate for the age. The base has a few small holes, which may indicate the lamp was originally mounted somewhere. Electrical: Fitted with a bayonet cap and an old vintage plug. The cord has been renewed in the past.
