French school (XX) - Nature morte aux roses, vase bleu et éventail

French School of the 19th Century – Still Life with Roses, Blue Vase and Fan – 1899 Large original watercolor on paper – 46 × 55 cm – Signed Elegant watercolor from the late 19th century depicting a refined floral arrangement, combining a bouquet of white roses delicately shaded with pink and purple, a cobalt blue porcelain vase with multicolored decoration, and a large fan unfurled in the background. The artist creates a particularly harmonious composition, in which the generous forms of the roses contrast with the radiant lines of the fan. The foliage in multiple shades of green and blue adds depth and freshness to the whole. The painting technique shows a fine mastery of watercolor: transparent washes, subtle gradients, precision of detail, and delicacy in rendering the petals. The combination of flowers, the fan, and oriental-inspired porcelain evokes the tastes for japonisme and the decorative arts at the end of the 19th century. The work includes a handwritten dedication at the bottom left, presumably addressed to “Madame S. Michelon,” followed by the phrase “Respectful homage,” an undetermined signature, and the date 1899.
