Ayrton Senna da Silva (São Paulo, 21 March 1960 – Bologna, 1 May 1994) was a highly successful Brazilian racing driver who became three-time Formula 1 World Champion within a span of ten seasons. He started in 161 races, clinching pole position 65 times and winning 41 times. Ayrton Senna began his racing career at the age of four in karting. After competing in Formula Ford 1600 and 2000 classes, he won the British F3 in 1983, ahead of Martin Brundle. He died as a result of a crash in the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.
